For a city to be on the sea is quite special and quite advantageous. Just think of a town having two!
In Taranto you have the great sea and the small sea. Tradition tells us that the Spartans were the ones who founded this city and that they inhabited the gulf area.
In fact they took their name from it.
Starting from the small sea we move around Villa Peripato into the underground, oceanographic and national museums. After the visit, and after having crossed the rotating bridge, we find ourselves in the old part of town. Our suggestion is to visit the castle, the town hall, the cathedral and the church of San Domenico, which are all close by.
Presented in this way, it seems simple but each of these sights merit greater attention and time.
